Motorcycle Training Courses
£10 One Hour Introductory Motorcycle Lesson
If you’ve not ridden before, you may be wondering how you’re going to get on, or what the Instructors will be like, or simply what the process is to obtain a Full Licence. Maybe you’ve ridden before, but not for a while. This lesson will allow you to get back in the saddle and see what you can remember.
Booking an introductory Lesson with us will answer all these questions, and more. Whether you have experience or not, this lesson is invaluable to us as an assessment of your riding so that we can ensure that you’re enrolled on the right type of course.
Compulsory Basic Training
Whether you are experienced or not, this is the first step everyone must take to obtaining a full motorcycle licence or to ride 50cc plus machines on the road with ‘L’ plates.
The course syllabus includes:
- Choosing the correct helmet and safety clothing
- Knowing the machine and its controls
- Basic daily/weekly machine safety checks
- Manual handling and using the stands
- How to pull away and stop using the brakes safely
- How to use the gears (if appropriate)
- Slow speed control
- Controlled stops
- Practice simulated left and right turns
Assuming the above is completed to a safe standard there will be a full road safety briefing and a minimum two-hour road ride, at the conclusion of which a certificate of completion (DL196) will be issued to those who have demonstrated good basic machine control and road awareness.
Remember, CBT is not a test. It’s an assessment of your basic safety. Throughout the course you will receive instruction to achieve a safe standard of riding. We will provide you with an extra visit* to complete the course if we recommend extra training. So don’t worry we’ll make it as pleasant and enjoyable as we can for you.
Free use of safety helmet and gloves.
Free use of waterproofs.
Free tea and coffee.

5 Day Beginner Course
Day 1 (CBT)
The course will start with Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) where you will be trained to a safe basic level after which you will be issued with a Certificate of Completion (DL196). In many ways this is the most important part of your course. A good standard achieved at this stage will ensure that the rest of your course runs smoothly.
Day 3 (DAS1)
This is when A2 and Direct Access students (see
‘The Law’) will upgrade to a 650cc machine. Emphasis again is on becoming familiar and confident with the larger machine, so you are more comfortable for Day 4 when we start training you for the Tests. Again, plenty of road work.
4 Day Intermediate Course
Day 1 (CBT or RR1 as required)
The course will start with Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) for those who haven’t taken it yet where you will be trained to a safe basic level after which you will be issued with a Certificate of Completion (DL196). For those who have already completed CBT this day will take the form of a 125cc skills day to re-acquaint you with the riding basics and disciplines which may have been lost since CBT. For all, this is an important part of your course. A good standard achieved at this stage will ensure that the rest of your course runs smoothly.
Day 2 (DAS1)
50This is when A2 and Direct Access students (see ‘The Law’) will upgrade to 650cc machine. Emphasis is on becoming familiar and confident with the larger machine so you are comfortable for Day 4 when we start training you for the Tests. There will be plenty of road work on this day to build your confidence.
